Walking down the grocery store isle, a bottle caught my eye. Maple Water. I thought it was interesting as my eyes read the bottle they slowly made their way down the the price tag on the shelf: $2.49 Wow. So what’s in this magic bottle of elixir? Ingredients: Maple Water Actually, it went one more step and stated “Organic Maple Water”. I’ll rant about organic being another day. Similar to a company telling me that my cane sugar is gluten free… Oh look, the maple water is gluten free also! Another day… Another day… I cracked open the bottle and had a taste. Upon the first taste, my assumption was…

Last year was my first year making maple syrup on my own. I went from volunteering at large sap house, to boiling sap on my back deck in a lobster pot. In short I was starting from scratch and venturing on my own. My next step up, though still lacking my own sugar house, is getting a divided flat pan that I can use on a double outdoor burner. It’s basically custom made for what I’m doing. 36″ x 16″ – which will fit perfectly on an outdoor double burner. I even had a custom made sap pre-heater which fits perfectly inside! This will allow me to boil off 3…

We traveled to Bermuda to see the America’s Cup and to dual celebrate our anniversary but mainly because we (well, mainly me) wanted to see the AC boats and races. The fact it was a Bermuda was secondary. I always knew of Bermuda, it’s where my Grandparents went when I was younger, but knowing about a place and having it on your radar as a location to visit are two different things. Let’s just say Bermuda was not on my radar. But after going to Bermuda for the America’s Cup, I have to say that I just fell in love with the place and will be back. I tried to…

Recently got back from the America’s Cup in Bermuda. What a great place to hold this event. In case you’ve been away for a spell, here’s a spoiler alert… Oracle didn’t win. Actually they lost soundly. No fault of their own, they really busted their butts but Emirates just proved to be sailing far too perfectly to lose. After a very rough start during the preliminaries for Emirates, they got the boat, the water, the crew, everything fine tuned. So much so they hit the once thought nearly impossible goal of reaching 100% fly time. Yes, 100% fly time during one of their races. With that kind of perfection there…

There are actually videos on the video page right now… Imagine that! Click the link on the top bar or head over to: https://www.missionexploration.com/videos/ and you’ll currently see a bunch of videos of my iceboating adventures. Iceboating is a huge passion of mine, which is currently not being met this year as of yet. Lots of snow and a busy schedule have made it difficult. I also sold one of my extra boats last year and sold my custom shrouds with it (I’m too nice), so I’m going to need to scramble soon here and set up a new mast. I had another one that’s been out on loan for…
